Settling into Shropshire

Settling into Shropshire

One of the few problems associated with visiting rural England is that sometimes the transport links seem pretty daunting. If you are coming from abroad to stay in Shropshire, the routes and links can seem confusing and perhaps off-putting.

But that doesn’t have to be the case. Where-ever in the world you come from, there can be a relatively easy route into this lovely rural county with its rolling hills, mysterious misty weather, quaint villages, and traditional towns such as Shrewsbury.

Most international travellers to Britain will end up in one of the London airport hubs – Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead or London City. All of them offer onwards transfers into the heart of the British countryside, including to airports close to Shropshire such as Birmingham, Manchester or Liverpool. From these major cities it is dead easy to travel into Shropshire’s rural delights via train, bus or taxi. It is about one hour’s travel from the cities to Shropshire’s countryside.

Heathrow airport transfer
is particularly easy. Everything is well sign-posted and simple to follow. All you have to do is work out which departure lounge you need to head to, and then follow the clearly marked signs. When you arrive at Heathrow Airport you will also find plenty of members of staff ready and willing to help you, so do not hesitate to ask for help or directions. After all, Heathrow is one of the biggest airports in the world, so it is not surprising that many transfer passengers get lost and end up wandering around the bland corridors.

Shropshire waits for you, and if you get lost in Heathrow, don’t worry. Shropshire will still be there.

Beauty of Shropshire

Beauty of Shropshire

In the collections of poems entitled A Shropshire Lad, A E Houseman allows you to feel what the English countryside is truly like. When you visit Shropshire you will find that the words of the poetry ring so true. Shropshire is a land with beautiful valleys, ridges and great places to walk.

When you visit Shropshire you must at least visit some of the many towns there. The town Shrewsbury is situated on the River Severn; it is almost an island to itself. It was a market town from medieval times. The streets wind along the riverside and are dotted with black and white houses. If you go downstream, you will run into Bridgnorth sitting on a cliff which overlooks the river. There is also Wenlock on the north end of Wenlock Edge. In the southern part of the county is the capital Ludlow which houses a breathtaking castle and pretty half-timbered Georgian buildings. In this part of the county there is always some event happening to entertain you; from festivals at the castle to the market in the square, and from the food festival in September to the good eating all year round, it is a very enjoyable place.

When you are looking for a place to stay in Shropshire, you must consider staying in a cozy holiday cottage. If you stay in one of these cottages you can catch a glimpse of the gorgeous Severn valley. You will be able to see the contest of the industrial revolution with the glory of nature that abounds in Shropshire. There are railway tracks that are juxtaposed to the beautiful sound of nature. There is the Iron Bridge which was a center of the industrial revolution. You will be able to hear birds singing and waters rushing. Shropshire allows you to experience beauty in a tranquil environment.

There is no need to worry about how to get around in this English countryside. There are always plenty of options including car leasing and Nissan car leasing is one of the best choices. So, if you are coming to stay in England for a while this is a must see sight for you to behold.

Vacation in Maldives

Vacation in Maldives

This coming summer I and my wife have the opportunity to go to Maldives islands. We both are more than excited. This would be our first vacation without our children. So my wife has some concerns. I wouldn’t have booked the tickets if the price had not been so intriguing. We got great cruise deals. Last year my neighbors went to Maldives and told us all the fun they had there. I did not believe that we could go for a vacation with the budget that I had. I was surprised.

Maldives is known for its tourism, fishing industry, cottage and agriculture industries. We are going to the Conrad Maldive Rangali Islands. The Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is been recently awarded as the World’s Leading Beach Resort. It is an exceptionally beautiful island in the Indian Ocean. This beautiful tropical island paradise has been our life time dream. It is a mesmerizing white sandy beach resort, surrounded by crystal clear waters. Here the guests can discover the un-spoilt reef and experience the barefoot luxury of the breathtaking white sandy beaches. I believe this is the best vacation spot. This resort has something for everyone. They are the most beautiful vacation resorts that I am aware of. I have not been there yet but I know deep down in my heart that this vacation IS going to be one of the best experiences. May be next year we will go with our Kids as well. They wanted to join us this year as well, but due to their commitments in relation to their education they would have to let us go alone.

My vacation to the Canary Islands

My wife and I have the opportunity to go to the Canary Islands this coming winter. We are more then excited. This will be the first time we have left our children, so my wife has some concerns.

I would never have booked a trip to such a far off place if the price had not been so intriguing. Our neighbors told us about Villa Rentals and all the fun that they had last year. I was not sure I believed you could go to a foreign country and vacation on the budget I had. But surprisingly I was mistaken.

Villa Rentals has something for everyone. They are the most beautiful vacation rentals that I am aware of. Staying is such a beautiful place has only been a dream for us. Of course I have not been there yet, but if it is anything like the pictures, I know I will not be disappointed.

Because I am a little bit of a skeptic, I wanted to talk to a few other people who have vacation in the Villa Rentals. It was easy to find out other peoples experiences on line and all most everything was 100% positive. In one post, a family of six got pink eye on the trip, but the Villa Rentals helped them find a Doctor who came right to the bungalow. That is going the extra mile for sure.

I will be sure to post after I leave the Villa Rentals, because I want other people to have an honest opinion. I know that was important for me.

Well, we are excited and ready for our trip to the Villa Rentals. If it is has good as it seems, we will be back with the kiddos.

Backing our equine star

Backing our equine star

Hopefully all of Shropshire will be supporting our local sporting star in March, as he takes on one of the biggest horse races in the calendar.

However, this champion isn’t a jockey or a trainer, but the six-year-old horse, Peddlers Cross, who hopes to take on some of the best in the country in the Champion Hurdle, at the Cheltenham Festival. Although after the recent distressing events that saw several horses electrocuted at Newbury, let’s hope owner Tim Leslie has taken out some extra equine insurance!

Peddlers Cross has already had a few successful races, as racing fans will know, including a win on Grand National day in the Novice’s Hurdle in 2010.

It’s no surprise that such a champion horse has been bred and trained in the Shropshire area; all our open countryside must be ideal for training purposes. And I know from personal experience how many riding schools there are in the region, after my daughter went through a horsey phase in her early teens! Luckily, there were always plenty of places that were happy to let her muck out and take care of the horses in exchange for lessons, as I certainly couldn’t afford to pay for them…

Perhaps if she’d stuck at it, it would be her saddling up Peddlers Cross in the big races – and it would be great to have a Shropshire jockey riding our local success story. Unfortunately, she lost interest in horses about the age of 4 when boys came long!

I’m not usually one for having a flutter, except on the Grand National sweepstake at work, but I think I might be tempted to stick a couple of pounds on Peddlers Cross. After all, we’re always told to keep supporting local businesses and enterprises, so surely a local stables is no different?

Stereotypical England for Overseas Tourists

Stereotypical England for Overseas Tourists

If you’re visiting the UK from America and want a great slice of rural Britain, look no further than Shropshire.

A county in the West Midlands, Shropshire is full of sweeping rural landscapes and quaint little villages. It is also home to some of the best English pubs imaginable, many of which have been serving weary ramblers for centuries – we highly recommend resting your tired feet by an open fire while enjoying a pint of ale and steak and kidney pie. There aren’t many greater comforts in the world.

There are only six main towns in Shropshire and it’s thought to be the least populated county in England. Such is its beauty that many poets have found inspiration for their works, notably among them being E. A. Housman and D. H. Lawrence. It is also perhaps the inspiration for some of Tolkein’s works, which is quite apparent when you compare popular depictions of Middle-Earth with the lush country surroundings.

While here, you could do worse than blow some of your hard-earned cash on a new car. Being predominantly rural, it’s easy to pick up a new terrain vehicle in Shropshire and you could save a fair bit of money also. <a href="http://vdsautomotiveuk.co.uk/“>Car shipping from the UK is easier than it once was, but do make sure you pay close attention to the customs and import charges, and not playing by the rules can result in fines completely eclipsing the original savings.

Just one thing – don’t expect much from the weather, which is typical of the Midlands (namely, it rains an awful lot!)
